Maple bacon is a thing now

The latest trend in food right now appears to be maple bacon flavor. I was at work at my grocery store today and I noticed a number of maple bacon things, including maple bacon-flavored sugar cookies that had a fall leaf thing. The fusion of maple and bacon flavors in food is nothing new, especially in breakfast. But it looks like the flavor is only just now becoming popular in the commercial culinary world, for reasons I don't exactly know.
